John and Ella, an elderly married couple leave their Detroit home and take off in their camper for one last adventure together. A sometimes amusing and sometimes sad story because she has stopped her cancer treatments and he is suffering from progressive dementia . They kidnap themselves from the adult children and the doctors who seem to run their lives. They hit the road and steal off on a forbidden vacation determined to prove that, when it comes to life, you can go back into your memory and steal a little extra time. This novel is a bittersweet tale of the golden years and is likely to offer consolation to readers and make you think of how you would handle your last days or make you understand those who are at the end of the line.
