Road novels is a literary genre that would appeal to anyone looking for adventure, looking for changes, redemption in their life, maybe a way to escape from the treadmill of life, search for new direction in life or just the trip that was put aside because of different reasons. It can also appeal to someone who is looking for something that would enlighten their lives. For young adults, a road trip probably would represent a new way to learn, new adventures, see the world under different perspective or to gain life experience and help to take decisions before committed into bigger responsibilities as studies or other life commitments.

Whichever is your reason and if you are unsure which path to follow join to this road trip where you can choose the following road novels literature pathways:

  • Psychological fiction
  • Place and Identity
  • Humorous
  • Domestic fiction and
  • Young adult fiction.
I hope you will find your selection useful and enjoyable!!

Place and Identity_Going Inland by Pat Jacobs

This novel was nominated to the International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award, 2000 and won the Western Australian Premier's Book Awards, Fiction Award,1998.

Jacob's novel is set in the mid-nineties. Tom and Zoe Drewe, decided to take a trip and put everything on hold, it was to be their first trip for them and like thousands of others, who were also "going around Australia". Their journey began in certainty and on their own terms, takes on its own momentum and compulsions, until they are driven as much as driving, and increasingly acted upon by the power and histories of the land whose surface they cross. This is a compelling, moving, disturbing road novel of self discovery as part of the ritual urge that some middle age took hold in the search of the meaning of place and the nature of belonging.
